Caravan Reverse Polarity Adapter

If you're travelling abroad in your caravan or motorhome, this is a piece of equipment you should consider investing in.

On sites abroad, the live and neutral wires can be wired the other way around. Without going into massive amounts of deals, if something is wired up "the other around" i.e. in your Electric Hook Up (EHU) things in the caravan will still work, however, they may remain live. For example, if you switch the kettle off, it may still be live.

In theory, this isn't particularly dangerous, but if an appliance has a fault, it may cause you problems.

With most things in life, once you start to concern yourself with something, then you need to sort it, or it just plays on your mind. "What if I'm on a site in France and the polarity is reversed". This is something I've never even thought about until recently. But as soon as that thought entered my head, I felt it prudent to get one.

You can, of course, modify cables yourself, but that's beyond the scope of this article, there are plenty of resources on You Tube if that's what you want to do. There are a couple of useful informational videos at the bottom of the article.

We recommend buying one that also has a tester, that way you can have peace of mind and test it yourself. In theory sites should tell you if their site is in fact reverse polarity, but better safe than sorry and just quickly check yourself with a tester. this is included with some cables.
